Change and Opportunity: The Future of Work and Learning

The world is changing dramatically – from the way we communicate to the way we work, learn and engage as citizens – and employment is changing dramatically as a result of new technologies. What are the major trends in technology that will continue to shape the way we work and learn? How do we ensure that these emerging trends create opportunity for all our citizens and not just a few? How do we prepare for these changes, and what unintended circumstances can we circumvent, avoid or mitigate? Do we need new approaches to training and learning and/or new ways of certifying skills and knowledge to create technologically resilient life-long employment opportunities?

In this seminar, we will explore the emerging trends, debate their impact and examine new ways to prepare for the future and mitigate negative impacts. We will also look at how these trends may affect those who live in cities differently from those who live in more rural areas. How does the rise of technology provide new opportunities and challenges for Mexican industries and workers? How can the country and industries welcome entrepreneurship and innovation, while staying true to its history, culture and people by providing its residents with the tools to reinvent themselves work-wise?

The seminar will be moderated by Pablo Castellanos, Google Market Insights Mexico, Colombia and Central America and Cordell Carter Executive Director, The Aspen Institute Socrates Program.
